Il en existe quatre types principaux : le PS cristal ou GPPS (General Purpose Polystyrene), transparent, rigide et cassant ; le HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene), r\u00e9sistant aux chocs et opaque de couleur blanch\u00e2tre ; le PSE (Polystyr\u00e8ne Expansible), tr\u00e8s l\u00e9ger ; et le polystyr\u00e8ne extrud\u00e9, proche du polystyr\u00e8ne expans\u00e9 mais plus dense et plus imperm\u00e9able. Les principales applications du PS r\u00e9sistant aux chocs et du PS verre se situent dans les domaines suivants<strong><mark class=\"kt-highlight\"> extrusion-thermoformage emballage et moulage par injection d&rsquo;objets divers.<\/mark><\/strong>. Les formes expans\u00e9es et extrud\u00e9es sont principalement utilis\u00e9es comme isolants thermiques dans la construction et pour former des coques de protection dans l&#8217;emballage. <strong><mark class=\"kt-highlight\">coques de protection dans l&#8217;emballage d&rsquo;objets fragiles pour les prot\u00e9ger.<\/mark><\/strong> pour les prot\u00e9ger.
